With declining loyalty and greater job hopping, it’ crucial that CEOs partner with HR. John Bell has four good reasons:

  1. HR’s most important role is to influence the CEO on the corporate culture.
  2. An adept HR executive is the CEO’s window.
  3. HR ensures an effective system to pinpoint high-potential talent and probable successors.
  4. A strategic HR team can be instrumental in helping the CEO realize a leader’s greatest sense of gratification.

While these are all solid reasons, we’d like to add an early warning system.

An HR executive who stays abreast of the ever-changing regulatory environment that applies to employment practices can be the CEO’s early warning system. With every new law, regulation or rule enacted at the federal or state level, HR must adapt policies and practices to maintain compliance.

While this may be the least enjoyable aspect of an HR executive’s responsibilities, it could be one of the most important. If the HR team is proactive in managing regulatory risk, the potential for harm to the company, and therefore the CEO, can be minimized.

Sometimes it’s as easy as picking up a phone to activate your early warning system. Call HR Advocate for expert HR support.
